Cell-Life has implemented a membership and contacts database system for the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC).
This is called CONTAC system. Cell-Life won the contract through a tender system in March this year, and Dirk de Jager wrote the system in PHP before going to the UK to study for his PhD. This is the first time the TAC has had a centralised membership database.
After training of provincial organisers in September, the details of members have systematically been captured into CONTAC in preparation for the TAC’s national congress early next year. As with the introduction of any new IT system, especially one that imports existing data from separate sources, there have been a couple of teething problems. The system however, is greatly assisting with the coordination and organisational growth of the TAC. Future versions are now being planned, including the ability to send SMS’s to users selected from the database. Cell-Life is glad to be able to strengthen one of the organisations leading the civil society response to HIV in our country.
