iDART, a pharmacy stock control and dispensing system, is one of Cell-Life's key products. With the mission-critical role
that this system fulfils, Cell-Life has launched iDART-in-a-box, a
comprehensive package that can be used immediately on arrival at a site.
iDART is a software program released by Cell-Life under an open-source license. It relies on an operating system, hardware and effective backups for continuous operation. Failure in any one of the constituent parts could mean downtime which is unacceptable when overworked staff depend on the efficiency of the dispensary at community health clinics. With iDART-in-a-box, Cell-Life supplies an entire system rather than just software. The system is assembled and thoroughly tested at the Cell-Life head office prior to shipping to a remote site. Upon arrival at the site all one needs do is plug it into a power socket. Since reliability is a key concern, Linux is used as the operating system rather than Microsoft Windows (which has various vulnerabilities requiring regular attention). The operating system is configured so that its primary function is running iDART in a secure environment. iDART-in-a-box also includes backups to Cell-Life's secure servers. Backups are done via the cellphone networks, thus ensuring that we do not need to rely on Internet connectivity at sites. Clinic management can be assured that their data is backed up remotely regardless of any downtime in the clinic's network. A benefit of remote backups is that Cell-Life can readily replace the PC that is supplied with iDART-in-a-box in the event of theft, fire or any other unforeseen event. With the launch of iDART-in-a-box Cell-Life hopes to further its commitment to supplying community health clinics with systems that work, all the time. |
