The Desmond Tutu HIV/AIDS Foundation (DTHF) Aftercare Project
Tuesday, 17 January 2006

Cell-Life has just begun to redevelop their pilot ART site, the Hunan Crusaid HIV/Aids clinic. The new development will be in two portions.

The first portion is the complete overhaul and redesign of the current aftercare system. Since its inception in January 2004 the aftercare system has assisted the Sizophila home-based counsellors in the collection of adherence and social information on ART patients. The system has made the counsellors’ jobs easier and saved them time, allowing them to care for more patients. The redevelopment aims to make the aftercare system even more user-friendly for the counsellors and to assist the management, research and doctors of DTHF to effectively and efficiently manage and monitor the patients under their care.

The second is a paediatric aftercare system that will assist the home-based counsellors to assess and monitor the children on ART and the care given to them. ARV treatment for paediatrics is more complicated in the sense that the child relies on a primary care giver to provide the correct dosages at the correct times for the duration of the child’s treatment.
