Aftercare Revamp at Gugulethu
Friday, 21 July 2006

The redevelopment of the Aftercare system used at the Hannan Crusaid HIV/Aids clinic in Gugulethu has been completed.

The new system is currently being used by the Sizophila home-based counsellors to collect information on the adherence and social information on ART patients. The original system was implemented in late 2002 and allowed councillors to use their mobile phones as data collection tools. The first version upgrade was carried out in early 2004. At the beginning of 2006 it was decided that the system was due for another overhaul.

Starting from scratch the system has been re-designed. The menus that the councillors use on their phones were rebuilt to better suit the their needs. The web interface for the system was also re-designed to provide easier access to the data and to make the management of the counsellors easier.

New features include:

  • Improved menu system
  • Paediatrics menu to allow data collection of children's information
  • Redesigned user interface for increased usability
  • Improved reporting on collected data
  • Counsellor management
