When an HIV+ person is at a level suitable for treatment, they are interviewed for acceptance into an ARV treatment programme and assigned to a therapeutic counsellor. Typically, counsellors liaise with between 15 to 20 HIV+ patients. They are trained to gather vital information about their patients using a cellphone (mobile phone) equipped with customised application software developed by the Cell-Life team. The purpose of the cellphone is to provide a menu-based, real-time system to capture treatment-relevant data from the patient, such as symptoms, drug adherence and socio-economic factors. This information is instantly and directly logged to a central database. Efficient and user-friendly, Cell-Life's technology eliminates the need for cumbersome paperwork, and provides a solution to log accurate data about patients on a large scale and with minimum cost, maximum efficiency and significantly less human error. In addition various modifications to this system can result in a variety of application solutions that require remote data collection components.
